By and large game companies have ignored the fact that replacementdocs hosts their manuals for download. In fact a few have outright embraced us (Atari comes to mind - who posted a link to us on their support website).

But there have been the occasional game companies who don't see the value in a resource like this, so they have requested their manuals be removed upon threat of legal action. I have no intention of getting into legal battles over a hobby like this, so please DO NOT request any of the following manuals because we will not post them unless we get explicit permission from the game companies themselves:

NOTE: Blizzard previously requested all Starcraft, Warcraft, and Diablo documentation removed. However, they have since granted permission to us to distribute these documents.

Removed by request of Bethesda Softworks:
IHRA Drag Racing 2
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Elder Scrolls I - Arena
The Elder Scrolls II - Daggerfall
The Elder Scrolls III - Morrowind and expansions
The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion and expansions
The Elder Scrolls Adventures - Redguard
Fallout 3
All other Bethesda Softworks game documentation

Removed by request of 3000 AD
Battlecruiser Millenium Gold

Removed by request of Digital Aspirin (Andy Cole)
Lock On - Modern Air Combat
Note that the manual that was previously distributed on this site was not, in fact, the manual that came with the retail copy of Lock On. It was actually a supplemental manual/guide created under license by a third-party (Digital Aspirin) for Ubisoft. They still hold the copyrights for this manual and the manual is actually available for purchase.

UPDATE 4/21/2007: The original site that was selling this manual appears to no longer exist... however, I am not aware if the copyright holders are trying to continue selling the document or not.

Removed by request of Shrapnel Games
BCT - Brigade Combat Team Commander
Weird Worlds - Return to Infinite Space
All other Shrapnel Games documentation

If you're looking for any of these manuals, sorry, but we can't help you. The best suggestion I could make is complaining to these companies at their websites listed above and hope that they offer these documents to the public at some time in the future.

Removed by request of Bethesda Softworks:
The Elder Scrolls III - Morrowind - Manual

For folks who have the OEM version of the game (mine came bundled with my MSI GeForce TI4200 gfx card), note that the manual is on the second CD, the one labelled "TES Construction Set", in the "Manual" directory. Actually there is multiple versions for various languages. Nice, clean, crisp PDFs. (i.e., not scans but the actual PDF sent to the printshop, I imagine) I've found this out by coincidence one day.

Well, legally, not a single one of us can upload any manuals, unless we ask for permission first from the game company.

But for someone needing a replacement manual from a game that came out 20 years ago from a company that's no longer around, and you can't find out who owns the rights to that dead company...

Tiny independent publisher Shrapnel Games has added their name to the list of companies who have threatened legal action. It's really a shame to see the little guys doing this because they need all the extra attention they can get. I personally think seeing a manual gives you a much better idea of what a game is like... much more so than a handful of screenshots and marketing speak.

To their credit, you won't find their games on the used games shelves much if at all. So, anyone that buys their games probably bought it directly from Shrapnel and should probably have the manual already. But that still won't help fans of their games who have lost their manual or are just shopping around and curious about how their games play.

I wonder if Shrapnel Games is related to Shrapnel Records... If not, I would like to see the look on the Shrapnel Games folks, if Shrapnel Records should deprive them of the use of that name, since Shrapnel Records exists since the late seventies... and is a registered trademark...

It would be a nice turn of the table...

Yeah, in the US trademarks aren't protected across industries though...

Wonder why Bethesda wanted the stuff taken down. It's a shame. They're usually quite cool about not over-burdening their stuff with copy protection and other legalese.
